How to set up Sisense

Updated yesterday

Setup takes about 10 minutes.

Introduction

Connecting Sisense to Foundational allows Foundational to scan and determine lineage and downstream impact for Sisense dashboards and assets.

To make the connection, you need to:

  • Get your Sisense server URL

  • Create an API token in Sisense

  • Connect Foundational to Sisense

Prerequisites

Ensure you have:

  • Access to the Sisense server you want to connect to Foundational

  • Admin rights to create an API token in Sisense

Access permissions

Foundational needs read access to dashboards and SQL metadata. This means that Foundational needs a user account that:

  • belongs to a user group with SQL access

  • has a user role set to Read

You can either create a dedicated user for Foundational with permissions listed above or allow Foundational to use an existing account.

If you use an existing account, Foundational inherits all the permissions assigned to that account.

For more on managing user permissions, see the Sisense articles Managing User Permissions and Managing User Permissions - RBAC.

Get your Sisense server URL

  1. Sign in to your Sisense server in a browser.

  2. Copy the server URL from the browser address bar.

  3. Keep only the protocol and hostname. Remove any path or query parameters. e.g., https://my-org.sisense.com

  4. Save the server URL. You’ll need it to set up the connection.

Create an API token

  1. Sign in to the Sisense server you want to connect to Foundational.

  2. Select My Profile.

  3. In the left menu, select API Token.

  4. A new screen opens showing the API token. Copy the API token and save it. You’ll need it to set up the connection.

Connect Foundational to Sisense

  1. In Foundational, open the Connectors & Integrations page.

  2. In BI & Analytics, select the Sisense card and click Connect.

  3. A new screen opens. Click Add Account.

  4. The initial setup screen opens. Click Start Setup.

  5. The Set Up New Connection screen opens.

    Enter the details:

    • Server URL The URL you saved earlier.

    • API Token: The value you saved earlier.

  6. Click Next.

  7. The final setup screen opens. To complete the connection, click Save.

That’s it. Foundational is now connected to Sisense.
