How to set up Sisense
Updated over a week ago

Use this connector to have Foundational scan and determine lineage and downstream impact for Sisense.

This setup should take about 10 minutes.

Configuring Sisense Connector

The setup is compose of 4 simple steps:

  1. Get your Sisense server URL

  2. Create an API key for Foundational in Sisense

  3. Configure the Sisense connector in Foundational

This guide will help you complete the setup step by step.

1. Get your Sisense server URL

First we need to get the URL of the Sisense server that you want to connect with Foundational.

  1. Sign-in to your Sisense server in your browser.

  2. Copy the server URL from the browser’s address bar, leaving only the protocol and hostname and drop any path / query-params. You should be left with something like https://my-org.sisense.com

  3. Save the server URL aside for later.

2. Create an API Token

Now that we have the server URL, let’s create an API token for Foundational.

  1. Make sure you are signed-in to the Sisense server you want to connect with Foundational.

  2. Open the My Profile page: Click the profile icon located in the upper right of the screen, and select My Profile from the menu.

  3. In the My Profile menu on the left go to API Token

  4. In the API Token tab that is now shown, copy the API token.

Note about permissions

In Sisense, API tokens will have the same access rights as the user for which they were created. If you want to limit the permissions of Foundational’s API token you can create it from a less privileged user. You can create a dedicated user for Foundational, this requires admin permissions on Sisense.

The permissions required by Foundational includes a Dashboards and SQL read access, i.e. Foundational’s user need to be a member of a User Group with the SQL access right and the User Role can be set to Read. Follow the instructions in these pages: Managing User Permissions and Managing User Permissions - RBAC

3. Configure your Sisense connector in Foundational

Now that you have created an API key for Foundational connector, make sure you have the following details as they are needed for the connector setup:

  • Server URL

  • API Token

  1. Go to Foundational’s Connectors setup page: https://app.foundational.io/connectors , you should see a screen that looks like this:

  2. Look for the Sisense logo and click the Configure button

  3. In the right-side panel, click the Add new Sisense account button

  4. Fill in the connector details in the form: the Server URL and the API Token. Then scroll to the bottom of the right-side panel and click the Save button.

Setup is complete! You should now see that you have 1 configured account for Sisense, and Foundational will start to process Sisense lineage and metadata.
