Setup takes about 15 minutes.
Introduction
Connecting Fivetran Enterprise to Foundational allows Foundational to extract lineage for Fivetran ETL pipelines.
Foundational does not connect to the Fivetran API. It reads Fivetran pipeline metadata from the Fivetran Platform Connector tables stored in Snowflake.
To make the connection, you need to:
Configure the Fivetran Platform Connector
Assign Foundational read permissions to the Platform Connector tables in Snowflake
Connect Fivetran to Foundational
If you use BigQuery or use other Fivetran plans, please contact Foundational support.
Prerequisites
Ensure you have:
Admin rights for Fivetran Enterprise
A Snowflake connector already set up in Foundational, see the article How to set up Snowflake
Access permissions
The permissions you assign to Foundational enable it to:
Read all tables in the Fivetran Platform Connector database and schema
List Fivetran connectors, destinations, and pipeline activity
Extract lineage from Fivetran pipeline logs and map upstream and downstream dependencies in Snowflake
Configure the Fivetran Platform Connector
The Fivetran Platform Connector generates and stores logs for all Fivetran pipelines. Foundational uses these logs to extract lineage information. See the Fivetran article Fivetran Platform Connector.
If the Fivetran Platform Connector is already configured, confirm the database and schema names.
To configure, you need Fivetran admin rights.
Use the Fivetran guide to set up the Fivetran Platform Connector.
Configure the connector to write logs to Snowflake.
Save the names of the database and schema used by the Platform Connector. You'll need them to set up the connection.
