How to set up Fivetran

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Use this connector to have Foundational extract lineage information for your Fivetran ETL pipelines.

This setup should take about 15 minutes.

Notes:
- Only Fivetran Enterprise is supported. If you need support for other Fivetran plans, please contact support@foundational.io.
- Right now, Foundational supports extracting Fivetran lineage only for customers using Snowflake. If you are using BigQuery, please contact support@foundational.io.

In order to provide Foundational access to Fivetran, please follow these steps below:

1. Configure Fivetran Platform Connector

Fivetran Platform Connector is how Fivetran generates and saves logs for all of its operations and pipelines. Foundational uses these logs to extract information and lineage for your pipelines.

Note: This might already be configured. If it's not - then you will need to configure it.

Permissions: You need to be Fivetran administrator for configuring Fivetran Platform Connector

  1. Follow the steps in Fivetran guide in order to set up Fivetran Platform Connector for your account.

2. Setup in Foundational

In order to use Fivetran integration, you must first make sure that the Snowflake connector is properly set up, as Foundational will use the same credentials to access Fivetran

Permissions: Make sure that the Foundational user and role have read access to all the tables under the Fivetran Platfrom Connector database and schema.

  1. Open the Integrations page in Foundational and select the Fivetran integration

  2. Click on: "Add new Fivetran account"

  3. Fill in the details required:

    1. Platform - select Snowflake (this is the only one supported right now)

    2. Database name - enter the name of the database that Fivetran Platform Connector saves its logs to

    3. Schema name - enter the name of the schema that Fivetran Platform Connector saves its logs to
